Cornelius Pasichny

Cornelius John Pasichny OSBM ( born March 27, 1927 in Winnipeg, † January 30, 2014 in Toronto ) was Ukrainian- Greek Catholic Bishop of Toronto.

Life

Cornelius John Pasichny joined the Congregation of the Basilian and studied philosophy in Glen Cove, Long Iceland and theology at the Gregorian University in Rome. On 31 October 1948 he passed the profession and received on 5 July in 1953 by Archbishop Ivam ​​Buchko in Saint Sergius and Bacchus in Piazza Madonna dei Monti in Rome the priesthood. After his ordination, he completed another philosophical Lizenziatsstudium at the Gregorian. In 1954 he returned to Canada and ended in 1956 a master's degree in philosophy at the St. Paul University, Ottawa. He then taught at the scholastic study house of his order in Mundare. In addition, he was a priest in Krakow and Borschtschiw. 1958/59 he was interim pastor of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish of St. John the Baptist in Ottawa. From 1959 to 1963 he was an assistant of the Superiors ( " vicar " ) in the monastery Mundare, where he also taught Latin, Slavic Church history and Ukrainian history. In 1981 he became spiritual director of the newly founded Holy Spirit Seminary. In 1985 he became pastor in his hometown of Winnipeg.

On 6 November 1995 he was elected by the Holy Synod as Bishop of Saskatoon and Pope John Paul II confirmed this choice. The Archbishop of Winnipeg Michael Bzdel CSsR consecrated him on January 17 of next year to the bishop; Co-consecrators were Filevich Basil, Bishop Emeritus of Saskatoon, and Severian Stefan Yakymyshyn OSBM, Bishop of New Westminster.

On 1 July 1998 he was appointed Bishop of Toronto. On 3 May 2003 John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.
