Cornelius Severus

Cornelius Severus was an epic Roman poet in the Augustan period. He was friends with, among others, Ovid.

From Cornelius Severus still 16 fragments have survived. His friend Ovid wrote him the "Poem of the kings " to ( letters from exile, 4,16,9 ), which was possibly the first part of a longer Verschronik named " Res Romanae ". Seneca the Elder quoted in his work suasoriae ( 6:26) 25 verses on the death of Cicero, which may also stemmed from this work. Quintilian praises a poem about the Sicilian War and Seneca the Younger ( Letters 79.6 ) refers to a description of Etna. Both came possibly from the "Res Romanae ".
