The Corno Grande ( German as " big horn " ) is the highest peak of the Gran Sasso d' Italia and the entire Apennines. The three highest peaks of its peaks crown are determined by the additional adjuncts Occidentale ( 2912 m), Central ( 2893 m) and Orientale ( 2903 m) in more detail.

To the north they form a boiler (Italian anfiteatro - " amphitheater " ) in which one of the southernmost glacier in Europe is, of Ghiacciaio del Calderone ( Calderone Glacier ). He is also the only ice rink in the entire Apennines.

On the much bestie own mountain several routes starting from the Campo Imperatore, the easiest is the "via normal", a trail through the western side, for something Skilful there is the " via direttissima ", a slight climb ( Difficulty II) of south via the alluvial fan at the foot of Corno Grande to the summit.
