Cornwall Royals

The Cornwall Royals were a Canadian ice hockey team from Cornwall, Ontario. The team was from 1969 to 1992 in two of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League ( QMJHL ) and the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ) active.

History

The Cornwall Royals played from 1961 to 1969 as an amateur team in the Central Junior A Hockey League. After she did not take up the Ontario Hockey Association, the Cornwall Royas were founded in 1969 as a franchise of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Already in its third season, they won the first time the Coupe du Président, as they prevailed against the Peterborough Petes. With the victory, they qualified for the Memorial Cup, in which they won against the Quebec Remparts. Even in the years 1980 and 1981, won the first Royals again the Coupe du Président and then the Memorial Cup.

After 13 years in the QMJHL the Royals in 1981 changed still in the Ontario Hockey League, where they could, however, gain any more titles, so that the franchise was founded in 1992 by Newmarket, Ontario, resettled, where it subsequently in the name Newmarket Royals was the OHL active.
