Corona (beer)

Corona (Spanish for crown) is a Mexican brand of beer, which is brewed by Grupo Modelo ( majority-owned by Anheuser- Busch Companies ). In Mexico, Corona is the best selling beer, but also internationally, it is getting more and more important. It is available in more than 150 countries. The ingredients of Corona beer in addition to water, barley malt, hops and yeast, corn, rice, papain, and ascorbic acid. Thus, it is a corn beer. The alcohol content is 4.5%.

In the United States it is the meistimportierte beer together with Heineken and is often served with a slice of lime in the bottle neck. Throughout the world, Corona fourth place in the best-selling brands.

It is available in a variety of bottle sizes, but also as draft beer and regionally as cans of beer.

The " custom " to drink the beer with a lime, has nothing to do with the tradition of Mexico, but the lime was probably originally used to clean the bottle opening before drinking ( after the bottles were often stored in dusty conditions).

In Germany Corona is sold by Radeberger group. The annual sales total 45,000 hectoliters.

According to the German Environmental Aid Corona bottles are indeed sold in Germany as a returnable deposit bottles, but not refilled. They are non-returnable bottles and would therefore need to wear a DPG deposit icon. It would 25ct deposit (instead of the currently 8ct ) are collected. It is charged on the allegation that Radeberger consumers deceptive intent.
