Corporate Bodies Authority File

The Common Body Authority File ( GKD ) is a German -language authority file for the recording of names of corporations. It has been used in libraries for development especially.

The Common Body Authority File was created in the 1970s from the body data of the journal database ( ZDB). It was just like the Subject Authority File (SWD ) and the Name Authority File (PND ) jointly by the German National Library ( DNB), the Bavarian State Library, the State Library in Berlin and supported since 1997 by the Austrian National Library and updated, participated several library networks. The competent editors lay with the Berlin State Library.

In April 2004, the GKD contained over 915,000 records. End of April 2012, the GKD has risen with a number of 1,145,000 records in the common authority file (GND).

Structure

As with SWD and PND be applied as rules the rules for alphabetical cataloging (RAK- WB). It stipulates, among other things, what is to count as a corporation. These include, among others, local authorities and associations such as the company of companies and associations as well as conferences and exhibitions.

In addition to names ( preferred terms and synonyms ) of individual bodies contain GKD records links to parent corporations as well as earlier and later names.

GKD records are uniquely identified by an ID number, the GKD number. The GKD number consists of digits and contains the last being a check digit, which can also 'X' are ( for 10). The number ranges are allocated according Library Network in quotas, so that it can be determined for newer records, in which compound they were created.

GKD ( there usually via library networks ) available for information systems in libraries and other areas together with PND and SWD on the DDB on a standard file - CD -ROM or via a Z39.50 interface - but usually only against fee. To replace the standard data sets, there is a private MAB format (MAB - GKD ). Previously microfiche related ( see figure).

The enabled using the GKD search for individual bodies is part of many catalogs.
