Cortical dysplasia

As a focal cortical dysplasia, often abbreviated as FCD, the most common group is called cortical malformations. It is subtle focal disorders of the development of the cerebral cortex, which are frequently associated with epilepsy. A common classification of focal cortical dysplasia is the classification according to Palmini. Patients with focal cortical dysplasia of Taylor type ( Palmini type II) seem to have a more favorable postoperative course with higher seizure freedom after epilepsy surgery.
