Corvette lieutenant

Lieutenant Lieutenant was an officer of the rank k ( u ) k Navy and corresponded to the lieutenant in the land forces. Its equivalent in the German Imperial Navy was the lieutenant. The rank of Lieutenant Lieutenant was k.u.k. in the Navy awarded only to reserve officers. The lowest officer rank for career officers was the frigate lieutenant (equivalent to Lieutenant in the Imperial Navy ). The older name was partly used further in successor states of Austria -Hungary, for example in the navies of Yugoslavia and Croatia.

The title is explained by the well into the 19th century, the usual classification of warships into size classes, ranging from the smallest, the Corvette, on the frigate to battleship. In the Austrian navy in the titles were to be correspondingly formed led: Lieutenant Commander ( equivalent to Major, title identical to that of the German Navy ( n ) ), Commander ( Lieutenant Colonel, title identical to that of the German Navy ( n ) ), and the liner captain ( equivalent colonel in the German navies: sea Captain ).

In systematic correspondence also the ranking of the Navy subalterns as follows was dubbed in Austria - Hungary: Lieutenant Lieutenant (as equivalent to Lieutenant ), Sub-Lieutenant (equivalent to Lieutenant ) and Battleship Lieutenant ( equivalent to the German captain lieutenant ). Also, this ranking has been preserved in the Croatian Navy.
