Cosmati

As a Cosmati active between the 12th and 14th century group is called marble decorators. The Cosmati were mainly active in Rome in the decoration of churches. With its incrustations they decorated from floor, rood screen, pulpit, altars and episcopal chairs.

Their art was influenced by classical models and Arabic decorative pattern in southern Italy. The art of marquetry was often transferred to the son in the family of father.
