The Costco Wholesale Corporation is a major U.S. retail chain headquartered in Issaquah, near Seattle, Washington State. The company is listed on the stock index S & P 500 and the NASDAQ -100.

Costco has 500 stores in the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan (August 2008).

Company History

The company was founded on 15 September 1983 the opening of the first pick-up market in Seattle by James Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman.

1993 merged with its competitor the Costco Sol Price.

The company has around 164,000 employees worldwide (as of 2011).
