Couch's spadefoot toad

Southern blade ( Scaphiopus couchii ), Young Animal

The Southern blade ( Scaphiopus couchii ) is a living ashore Froschlurch. This toad is found in the southern United States and Mexico and belonging to one of seven similar species that live on the North American subcontinent. Yellow to yellowish- green is the color of the top, to the toad is marbled dark. The appearance is typical of amphibians that survive drought by burrowing into the ground. The five to nine inches long toad has for black " grave " blades on the soles of the feet which enable them backwards very quickly in sandy soil to dig. In the case of the Southern blade root survival is achieved in the soil by a water-resistant, sheath surrounding the Lurch. This is caused by the shedding of several layers of skin. The toad remains in approximately one meter depth in an idle state until the next rains come. If this happens, breaking the protective shell on the Lurch and crawls to the surface where it is then propagated (for more information on the biology under: American spadefoot ).
