Council of Italy

The Supremo Consiglio d' Italia was appointed by King Philip II in 1556, he withdrew by the affairs of the Kingdom of Naples, Sicily and the Duchy of Milan, the jurisdiction of the Supreme Council of Aragon.

This body consisted of a president and six regent (two each Kingdom, which is always a Spaniard and an Italian ). In his jurisdiction were all government and judicial matters as well as the complaints against the Spanish tax authorities of the respective kingdoms. Presented the supreme council of Italy and also supervised the military defense of the country and had the right to propose the appointment of viceroys of the three states, but the final decision lay in the competence of the Reich Chancellery.
