Council of Orange (529)

The Council of Orange was a local synod which took place in 529. In Arausio, today's southern French city of Orange, Pelagianism was condemned.

The teachings of Augustine of Hippo from original sin from the bondage of the will and divine grace were confirmed. The doctrine of predestination ( predestination ) was not directly rejected, but not confirmed, although it is closely linked with Augustine with his doctrine of grace.

The Council of Orange was never recognized by the Orthodox churches, as they reject particularly Augustine's doctrine of the unfree will.

The confessions of the Council of Arausio were held in Arausiacum.
