Council of the Islamic Revolution

The Revolutionary Council was an institution of the Iranian Revolution, which was founded after 5 February 1979 by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and worked up to give effect to the Iranian Constitution and the first election of the President.

History

Composition

The officially secret composition of the Islamic Revolutionary Council finds its origin during the exile of Khomeini in France. The inner circle was founded there initially consisted of the religious scholars Ardebili Mousavi, Mohammad Beheshti, Morteza Motahhari and Alī Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and had the task of coordinating the Iranian Revolution. The Revolutionary Council formed after the February 5, 1979 consisted of an undisclosed 13 - member board. In addition to its chairman Mohammed Beheshti today's top legal scholars Seyyed Ali Chamene'i, the current chairman of the arbitration and the Expert Council Rafsanjani, the religious scholar Mohammad Javad Bahonar, Mohammad Reza Mahdavi - Kani, Hussein Ali Montazeri and Mehdi Basargan, Sadegh Ghotbzadeh and Ezatollah Sahabi apply as members.

Tasks

The Revolutionary Council took over at the beginning of the Rückkehrs Khomeini from its exile, the steering of Iran. Gradually important posts were awarded to persons loyal to the regime, especially government offices, courts, military and cultural institutions of the Shah's faithful cleaned. All policy decisions, including those of the transitional government Mehdi Bazaar goose could be taken only with the consent of the Revolutionary Council. In principle, this order was the predecessor of the Guardian Council. He oversaw the qualifications of candidates for admission to the election of the Assembly of Experts. Following the resignation of the provisional government Mehdi Bāzargāns, on 5 November 1979 due to the hostage-taking in Tehran took over SCIRI all government business until the election of Abū l -Hasan Banīsadrs the first President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 25 January 1980.

With the declaration of the Revolutionary Council of June 4, 1980 all universities in Iran were closed. Khomeini expressed his fear of lack of support from students and faculty with the words: We have no fear of military attacks, we are afraid of colonial universities. Background was the fault of the speech Alī Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in April 1980 in the Faculty of Medicine.
