Council on American–Islamic Relations

The Council on American - Islamic Relations ( Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR ) is an Islamic civil rights organization. CAIR has its headquarters in Washington, D.C. He is recognized as a charitable organization and has sections throughout the United States and Canada.

The main objective of the organization is to protect the fundamental rights of Muslims in the U.S. and Canada. The legal department of CAIR helps victims of discrimination in the workplace, in public and in the media. Another goal of CAIR is to promote a positive image of Islam. The organization proposes to distinguish between moderate Muslims and Islamic terrorists. Furthermore, the organization aims to encourage Muslims American citizenship to register as voters and participate in the democratic process.

The organization was from different sides - accused proximity to militant and terrorist organizations such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood - including Daniel Pipes, Robert Spencer's Jihad Watch, Steven Emerson's Investigative Project and CAMERA.
