Country Music Television

Country Music Television (CMT ) is an American television channel, which specializes in country music.

CMT went on 5 March 1983, Hendersonville the first time on the air. Founder and president was Glenn D. Daniels, a Texas Country DJ. First, the channel has been abbreviated CMTV, but after complaints from the MTV V was omitted. The family produced music video and showed it to his station.

After the transmitter had many years of effort to establish itself on the market, it was taken over in 1991 by Gaylord Broadcasting and Group W Satellite Communications for more than $ 30 million. The two companies belonged with The Nashville Network already the direct competitor of CMT. In the 90s, CMT reached nearly 30 % of American households and 42 % of cable television owners.
