County of Moray

Morayshire is a traditional county in the north of Scotland on the Moray Firth. Previously, the term Elginshire usual. Administrative headquarters was the town of Elgin.

Originally there were two exclaves of Morayshire in the neighboring county of Inverness -shire and Morayshire enclosed an exclave of Inverness -shire. In the formation of administrative counties in 1890, these enclaves were exchanged and since Morayshire consisted of a closed area. 1975 Morayshire went on in the District of Moray Grampian region. The Grampian region was disbanded in 1996; since Moray is a unitary authority divided. Morayshire is still one of the Lieutenancy Areas of Scotland.
