Courante

The Old French Courante is a moderately fast ballroom dancing, which emerged in the 16th century. In the 17th century a differentiation took place in the French Courante and the Italian Corrente. Typical of the Courante are a moderate pace and the notation in 3/2 or 6 /4 time. The Corrente is usually in 3/8 or 3 /4 time, and is faster.

Like the Allemande, Sarabande and Gigue it became an integral part of the classical suite. She pulled together with the Allemande from the outmoded couple Pavane -Gaillarde.
