Courcelles-sur-Nied

Courcelles -sur -Nied is a commune with 1041 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality of Courcelles is located at the westernmost point of the French Nied, a few kilometers east of Metz.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1161 as Corilum and belongs since 1552 to France. Although it is always on the French side of the historic German - French language border, it was annexed in the Frankfurt Peace in 1871 by the German Empire and was called until 1915 Courcelles on the Nied. In 1915 the name was Germanized in Kurzel at the Nied. 1918 was returned to France.
