Courier (typeface)

Courier is a font for typewriters and computers. It was designed in 1956 by Howard Kettler and later further developed by Adrian Frutiger for the electric typewriters for IBM. As with typewriters usual, it is a non-proportional font, that is, all letters are the same width. Characteristic features are the strong serifs, with which, for example the white space at the " I" is filled.

Although the design of the original font was commissioned by IBM, the company did not have the font copyright; this is royalty free so.

Courier is often used as a substitute font if the font actually desired on the output device does not exist.

Also, Courier is used in most text editors, because, for example, a programmer can do to edit source code better (see indentation ). Similarly, it is commonly used as the default font for text-only e-mails.
