Courtaman

Courtaman is a village and formerly independent municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. Despite its location on the language border and the bilingual population, the community does not have a German name in the official language. On 1 January 2003 Courtaman was incorporated into Courtepin.

Geography

Courtaman is located on 591 m above sea level. M., 7.5 km north- northwest of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The village is located on a sloping gently to the northwest slope in the headwaters of the Biberen (French: La Bibera ), in Molassehügelland between Murten and the Saanen valley in the northern Fribourg plateau. The former municipality area was around 1.2 km ². It ranged from the Talniederung the Biberen and the Bois de la Rape to the southeast across the slope of Courtaman down to the mat and students to the brink of Monterschuwaldes (up to 650 m above sea level. M. ).

Population

With 1083 inhabitants ( 2002) Courtaman counted prior to the merger to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. In 1850 the community had 129 inhabitants, 1900 156 inhabitants. The earlier exclusively French-speaking village is bilingual today. The settlement area of Courtaman has grown together seamlessly with that of Courtepin.

Economy

Courtaman was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Today, farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have only a minor role in the occupational structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. Larger commercial operations and a tank farm have settled in the valley of the Biberen since the 1960s. In the resort construction companies, mechanical engineering and plants which produce heat pumps, are represented. Since 1956 Courtaman location of Foyer Saint -Joseph, a training center for the disabled. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Fribourg and Murten.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It is located above the main road from Fribourg to Murten. The nearest links to the motorway A12 ( Bern -Vevey ) is located approximately 6 km from the town center. By Postbus course, which runs from Murten via Gurmels to Courtepin station, Courtaman is connected to the public transport network.

History

The territory has been inhabited since the Roman era, as could be shown by finds of remains of walls, bricks and two bronze statuettes. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1309 under the name Cortemant and Curtemant. The place name is a compound of the late Latin word cortis (Hof ) dar. with the persons name Amandus

Courtaman was in the Middle Ages part of the property of the Counts of Thierstein. 1418 the village came by purchase under the rule of Freiburg and then became part of the Old Landscape ( Spitalpanner ). After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one Courtaman during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district of Freiburg and from 1831 to the German district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district.

As part of since 2000 sponsored by the Canton of Fribourg municipal mergers Courtaman was amalgamated with effect from 1 January 2003 Courtepin.
