Covenant Code

Sefer ha - Berit ( ספר הברית ) is Hebrew and means Book of the Covenant. In Judaism, the term refers to the section from 20.19 to 24.18 in the second book of Moses. This corresponds in the Jewish liturgy the conclusion of the week section Jethro and section Mishpatim ( " Laws"), which follow the Decalogue, that is, the Ten Commandments of the written Torah of the Hebrew Bible. After an introduction to the rules of civil law, criminal law and laws to follow cultic matters. The part ends with the story of the covenant of Israel with God, hence the name. These chapters are often interpreted as an independent Code ( Collection of Laws ).
