Coxal gland

Coxaldrüsen ( Coxalnephridien ) are excretory organs of Euchelicerata ( arachnids and sword tails), which have evolved from the original for the arthropod segmental Metanephridien. Their outputs are located on the coxae ( hips) of the walking legs, hence the name. Coxaldrüsen occur in one or two segments of the forebody.

The Coxaldrüsen correspond in crustaceans the antenna and Maxillendrüsen which open only in the head region in the appropriate places. For original Antennata as the Chilopoda and Symphyla 2 pairs Maxillendrüsen be adopted in the Dipolopoda these have been reduced to a couple. The original insects have a pair Maxillendrüsen, which lead to the second maxilla, here called the labium. In more developed insect salivary glands have probably developed from these.
