Coyron

Coyron is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Coyron is located on 534 m above sea level. M., about 18 km northwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a high plateau between the valley section of the Vouglan in the west and the forested chain of the high Jura in the east.

The area of ​​5.53 km ² large municipality area ( with Seeanteil 7.38 km ²) comprises a section of the French Jura. The western border is the Vouglan, which was dammed in 1969 and flooded the deeply cut, winding valley of the Ain. He is now a popular recreation area dar. History

The territory of Coyron was already inhabited during the Roman period. Presumably there was at that time at the site of the later Pont de la Pile a Roman bridge over the Ain. In the Middle Ages the river was crossed by a ferry back to 1776, a bridge was built. To a field change occurred in 1813, when the previously independent Guards Chemin was incorporated into Coyron.

Population
