CP Class 4700

The CP series 4700, also LE 4700, is a series of electric locomotives of the Portuguese State Railways ( CP).

History

In January 2006, the Portuguese state railway company CP ordered from Siemens 15 electric locomotives, including a spare parts kit and special tools. The locomotives with the series designation LE 4700 are based on the Euro Sprinter platform and are designed for the Portuguese broad gauge network. It has been written a option for a further ten vehicles, which was converted into a binding order in February 2007.

The 4,600 kW vehicles are intended for use in passenger and freight transport, and are designed for later conversion to European standard gauge.
