CPLEX

IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio ( usually just referred to as CPLEX ) is a program system for modeling and solving optimization problems using mathematical programming and constraint programming. CPLEX provides in addition to a command-line -based solver, the modeling language OPL and extensive libraries with access to the programming languages C, C , C #, Java and Python ready. There is also a MATLAB toolbox and interfaces to SPSS and Microsoft Excel.

History

CPLEX was originally developed by Robert Bixby as an implementation of the simplex method for solving linear optimization problems in the C programming language in 1987. This was marketed for the first time in 1988 by the CPLEX Optimization Inc., which he founded and Janet Lowe commercially and further developed. As a market leader in Operations Research CPLEX Optimization Inc. which was acquired by ILOG in 1997.

In January 2009, IBM took over the company ILOG and has since been responsible for the development and distribution of CPLEX.
