CPython

CPython or CPython is written in the C programming language reference implementation of the Python interpreter. He is also often called Python.

CPython is the default installed and most widely used Python interpreter. It is being developed as open source software by a team led by the Python creator Guido van Rossum.

Besides CPython, there are further, partly experimental Python interpreter. The best known are Jython and Stackless Python and the recent projects IronPython and PyPy.

CPython is not to be confused with the compiler Cython, which can create by Python compilation fast binary modules for the CPython interpreter.
