Crab Cake

The crab cake is an American dish that consists of crab meat and various other foods that can optionally be added, such as Crooked bread, milk, mayonnaise, eggs, onions and spices. Sometimes even ingredients such as red or green peppers or Radiesschen be added, then the court will sautéed, baked or grilled before it is then served. Crab cakes are traditionally associated with the area around the Chesapeake Bay, in particular with Maryland and Baltimore.

The two most common manifestations of crab cakes in Maryland called Boardwalk and Restaurant. Boardwalk crab cakes are typically breaded and deep fried. Moreover, they are often filled with various ingredients and then served on a hamburger bun. Restaurant Crab Cakes, however, which are also sometimes called gourmet crab cakes are usually not filled and are served on a plate or sandwich. In many restaurants serving crab cake, the two varieties are sold.

It may also meat every other crab species are used, although the meat of the blue crab, whose natural habitat is the Chesapeake Bay, is traditionally used and is considered the best-tasting. In the Pacific Northwest and northern California, the Pacific native crabs ( Metacarcinus magister ) are a popular ingredient.

The size of Crab Cakes varied. It ranges from a small biscuit to a hamburger. Sometimes they are also served with tartar sauce, mustard or ketchup.

Maryland Crab Cake is the national dish of the Preakness Stakes.
