Crabronini

Crossocerus elongatulus

The Crabronini are a tribe of grave wasps ( Spheciformes ) from the family Crabronidae. Worldwide 48 genera are known in Europe are 133 species and subspecies in 10 genera before, seven genera also fly in Central Europe.

Features

Way of life

A number of species build their nests in the earth, the more advanced genera of Crabronini such as Ectemnius, Crossocerus or Rhopalum nest above ground in stems, abandoned insect transitions in dead wood and other cavities. The brood is supplied with Diptera, but some species also hunt beetles or butterflies, bugs and more rarely small Hymenoptera.
