Craig Berube

Craig " The Chief" Berube ( born December 17, 1965 in Calahoo, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, who in 1986-2003 for the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and New York Islanders the National Hockey League has played. Since October 2013 he has been head coach of the Flyers, for whom he had previously been working as an assistant coach.

Career as a player

Craig Berube began his career as a hockey player in the 1982/83 season at the Williams Lake Mustangs from the Pacific Coast Junior Hockey League. In the same season he also ran in four games for the Kamloops Jr. Oilers from the Western Hockey League. After another three years in the WHL with the New Westminster Bruins, New Westminster Royals, Kamloops Blazers and the Medicine Hat Tigers signed the attacker on March 19, 1986 a contract as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers without ever having been previously drafted.

In the five years in which stood Berube in Philadelphia under contract, he also played for their farm team, the. Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League In May 1991, the Edmonton Oilers committed to Canadians that they but in September of the same year charges back to the Toronto Maple Leafs, without having previously put him in an NHL game. But even in Toronto remained Berube not long before he was released to the Calgary Flames in January 1992. After another season in Calgary Berube moved on June 26, 1993 in exchange for their fifth- round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 to the Washington Capitals.

After six years in Washington Berube returned in 1999 to his former club, the Philadelphia Flyers, back, for which he was the following year and a half active. The 2000/01 season began the winger with his former club Washington Capitals before the New York Islanders took him until end of season under contract. On 18 September 2001 Berube received a contract on his third ex-team, the Calgary Flames as a free agent, where he spent two more seasons in the NHL. His active career finally ended Berube in the season 2003/ 04 at the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

Career as a coach

Already in the first season after end of his career as a hockey player, Berube 2004 was assistant coach of his last team, the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League. In this role, he worked for two years for the club. Before the season 2006/ 07 Berube was named head coach of the Phantoms, but replaced by Kjell Samuelsson start of the season on the boards, as Berube was even until end of season as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League contract.

In October 2013, Berube of the Philadelphia Flyers was appointed to head coach after the team had lost the first three games of the 2013/14 season under head coach Peter Laviolette. Until then Berube Assistenzchoach had been under Laviolette.
