Craig Burley

Craig William Burley (* 24 September 1971 in Ayr, Scotland ) is a former Scottish professional football player.

Career

Craig Burley moved in 1989 to the first team of FC Chelsea from London, however, debuted in April 1991 with the 0:7 defeat to Nottingham Forest. Under coach Glenn Hoddle was the Scot regular players and performers in the middle of the "Blues ", with which he could win the 1997 FA Cup. In 1995, he was first nominated for the national team and was in the following year the squad at the European Championships.

Chelsea's new head coach Ruud Gullit did not plan with Burley and therefore sold him in the summer of 1997 for £ 2.5 million to the Scottish giants Celtic. In the Celtic jersey Burley went on to top form and played a major role in the winning the championship in 1998. Upon his first season he was voted Scotland's Player of the Year. In the same year he went to the World Cup in France, where he retired with his team in the first round. In December 1999 he returned for £ 3 million transfer fee to England and signed for Derby County a four-year contract. With the club he was relegated to the First Division at the end of the 2001/02 season.

Between 2003 and 2004 he made his career at FC Dundee, Preston North End and Walsall FC finish.
