Craig Douglas

Craig Douglas ( born August 12, 1941 in Newport on the Isle of Wight; actually Terence " Terry " Perkins ) is a British pop singer who was especially in the late 1950 's and early 1960's very popular. His biggest hit, a number one in the UK, was a cover version of Sam Cooke's " Only Sixteen ".

Life

Douglas went to school and worked during the holidays as a helper of a milkman in his hometown on the Isle of Wight in 1957 when he won a talent competition. This ultimately led to an appearance on the BBC TV show Six-Five Special, where he starred in a show with Cliff Richard and Joe Brown. Thanks to its performance and good connections of the producers of the show, Jack Good, Craig received a recording contract with Decca Records. But his first three singles flopped.
