Craig Handy

Craig Handy ( born September 25, 1962 in Oakland, California) is an American tenor saxophonist of modern jazz.

His stylistic range extends from bebop to advanced post-bop. He attended the 1981-1984 North Texas State University and played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Haynes and Abdullah Ibrahim. He took along with others, Elvin Jones and Betty Carter. He was a member of the Mingus Big Band ( Gunslinging Birds 1994) and the Mingus Dynasty.

Handy published in 1991 and 1993 on the Arabesque label. Its free improv Vista ion experiments in the classic team tenor saxophone, bass, and drums on the 1993 recording are gentler than comparable by Joe Henderson and David Murray and also thanks to the collaboration of Charles Fambrough well structured. In 1996 he played the role of Coleman Hawkins in the film Kansas City. Since 2007 he has been working with the all-star band The Cookers.

He is the son of alto saxophonist John Handy.
