The Craighead County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. In 2010, the County had 96 443 inhabitants and a population density of 52.4 inhabitants per square kilometer .. With Jonesboro ( Western District ) and Lake City ( Eastern District ) has the County over two administrative centers ( county seats ). The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northeast of Arkansas and borders with its northeastern tip to Missouri. It has an area of 1,847 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water are. History

The Craighead County was formed on February 19, 1859 from parts of Greene County, Mississippi County and Poinsett County. It was named after Thomas H. Craighead (1798-1862), a representative of the Mississippi County and Crittenden County in the government of Arkansas.
