Craighouse

Craig House ( Taigh na Creige ) is the capital of the Hebridean island of Jura and thus belongs administratively to the region Argyll and Bute. The village lies on a sheltered bay of the Jura Sundes on the east side of the island. In order to allow the berthing of vessels, a pier was built by Thomas Telford.

For a long time there was regular ferry service from Craig House to the British mainland, which has been set, however. To get to Craig House, now the ferry must first be taken to the island of Islay, runs from where another ferry from Port Askaig on the Islay Sound to Feolin on Jura.

In Craig House are a primary school, and the only hotel on the island of Jura. Since 1810 is operated intermittently at Craig House, the Isle of Jura Whisky Distillery, the only distillery on the island.
