Crans (Jura)

Crans is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Crans is at 730 m above sea level. M., about seven miles southeast of downtown Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a slightly inclined to the northwest slope, in the south of the Val de Sirod, which is drained by the upper Ain.

The area of ​​9.03 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The area extends from the valley of Crans (part of the Val de Sirod ) to the southeast over a relatively gently sloping hillside on the adjacent plateaus of Bois de la Chancelle (877 m above sea level. M. ) and Bois des Chenes ( 835 m above sea level. M. ). The area shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land and forest. It has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. With 895 m above sea level. M. is achieved the highest elevation of Crans on the edge of the amount of Perrena.

Neighboring towns of Crans Sirod are in the north, Les Chalesmes in the east, Planches -en- Montagne in the south and Syam in the West.

History

The etymology of the place name is not clear. Probably Crans goes back to the Burgundian personal names Grado and means as much as the people of Grado. In the Middle Ages Crans belonged to the rule Chaux -des- Crotenay. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Crans was built in the 18th century, while the bell tower from the 19th century came from.

Population

With 65 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Crans one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 225 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Crans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Accessible is the village either by Syam or Sirod.
