Craterosaurus

  • C. pottonensis Seeley, 1874

Craterosaurus is a little-known dinosaurs from the group of Stegosauria.

So far from this dinosaur only the vertebral arch of a vertebra known, which is characterized by a unique recess. The construction of the vertebral arch suggests an affiliation with the stegosaurs, a more precise determination is not possible. Sometimes Craterosaurus is equated with the Regnosaurus also known only by scanty remains, which probably can not be verified without further findings. Due to the scant remains Craterosaurus is sometimes considered nomen dubium.

The fossil was found in the English Bedfordshire and described in 1874 by Harry Govier Seeley. The find is dated to the Aptian ( Lower Cretaceous ) and is thus one of the recent finds a Stegosauries.
