Vierzehntropfiger Ladybug ( Calvia quatuordecimguttata )

The Vierzehntropfige ladybug or psylla Ladybug ( Calvia quatuordecimguttata ) is a beetle of the family of Ladybug ( Coccinellidae ).

Features

The beetles are about 4.5 to 6 mm long and have a broad, oval and arched body. Your elytra are bright reddish-brown to brownish and whitish carry seven points, four are arranged in pairs on both sides of the elytra seam. At the second pair of front boundaries outward at about the same height each two more points, so that a total of six standing in a row. The pronotum is also dyed reddish brown and has in the rear corners each have a small whitish spot. Both the sensor and the legs are brown.

Occurrence

The beetles are found throughout the Palearctic and North America, but they are missing in the far north. They live both on wet as dry spots, such as forest edges and meadows. Locally occur frequently.

Way of life

The beetles usually overwinter in the soil chaff. Like most ladybug species feed on both imagines and larvae Vierzehntropfigen ladybug aphids, but also of psyllids.
