Creative Cities Network

The Creative Cities Network is a project of UNESCO. It aims to celebrate cultural diversity and maintain. To this end the member cities their experience in maintaining the cultural heritage site with each other and discuss plans on how they cope with globalization. The network aims to strengthen the cultural identity of the member cities, ignored the growing trend towards internationalism.

The project aims to highlight one outstanding aspect of the culture of these cities, and finds ways in which the relevance of this heritage can be strengthened in the city life in the local economy and in social development. The aspects of culture that are found in the project account: literature, film, music, folk art, design, media and hospitality. For each of these aspects has its own award

UNESCO City of Literature

The City of Culture award UNESCO City of Literature is a newly established award in 2004 by UNESCO, to be held within the new program " Creative Cities ". It is not to be confused with the already longer existing title of " World Book Capital".

Since October 2004, Edinburgh is officially the first " UNESCO City of Literature ". In 2008, first arrived in Melbourne Australia and later Iowa City in the United States ( known by the " Writers Workshop " ) was added. 2010 Dublin received the award. Since 2011, Reykjavík City of Literature. On 21 October 2013, the award of the Polish city of Kraków was awarded. Other applications run, the objective of UNESCO is to form a global network of cities literature.

UNESCO City of Cinema

The title of UNESCO City of Cinema is a tribute to the UNESCO, which can be assigned within the program established in 2005 " Creative Cities Network ". The goal of the UNESCO program is to unite public and private partners and companies and to promote the creative economy. The international exchange should be improved and developed new collaborations. Cities that fulfill different criteria in the field of film and cinema, can apply for this award. So far, this title was given no other city.

Requirements

To be honored with the title, the following requirements must be met:

  • The city should have a strong cinematic infrastructure, which refers to the cinema
  • It should be present historical connections to the production, development and promotion, which are in a culturally relevant context
  • The cinematographic legacy should find its place in the form of archives, museums, private collections and film schools in the city
  • The city should be the venue for film festivals, screenings and cinematographic events
  • Filmmakers and artists should have their place of birth, residence and / or work in this city
  • Movies of the city or with her as Handlungsort should exist, preferably implemented by local filmmakers
