Cree syllabics

The syllabary of the Cree is a syllabary ( abugida ), which is used for several Algonquian languages ​​of Canada. From their different character sets the syllabary of the indigenous people of Canada have been developed.

History

The font was developed 1840-1846 in collaboration of the Methodist missionary James Evans with the indigenous Cree and Ojibwe in Norway House on Hudson Bay for the Cree language, Ojibwe Language and other Algonquian languages ​​of Canada.

The Canadian developed from their syllabary (Canadian Aboriginal symbol ) is also used for other indigenous languages ​​of Canada, in addition to Algonquian languages, Inuktitut, differ in which case the phonetic values ​​partly strong.

Properties

As in the Latin alphabet words are written from left to right.

Most dialects are written with only twelve basic characters that are rotated depending on the vowel of the syllable in four directions.
