Creeping Death

Creeping Death is a song by American heavy metal band Metallica. It is the seventh song on their second studio album, Ride the Lightning from 1984 and was published in " single in the same year as 12.

Origin and background

The inspiration for this song won the band when the musicians together the movie saw The Ten Commandments in 1956. During a scene of bassist Cliff Burton " Whoa, it's like creeping death ," said! (English for " Wow, this is like slow death " ). The musicians liked the words " Creeping Death ", so they wrote a song with these words as the title.

The song is about the ten plagues, the BC ravaged the land of Egypt, according to the Second Book of Moses in the 13th century. The title of the song refers to the tenth plague, the death of every firstborn son is placed. In the lyrics of the song the first and ninth plague be explicitly mentioned. The first plague turned the water of the Nile into blood. (2 Mos 7.20 LUT) The ninth plague brought three days of darkness. (2 Mos 10.21 LUT)

Originally the song of Kirk Hammett's former band Exodus was written and had the title Die by His Hands. It was recorded on a demo, but not used on an album of Exodus. Metallica's version was recorded at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The B-side contains cover versions of the songs " Am I Evil? " Of Diamond Head and "Blitzkrieg" from the band Blitzkrieg.

Reception

Stefan Lang from the online magazine Powermetal.de designated as one of the Creeping Death Metallica songs ever and praised the report because it does not give a lot of bands make it sound the stories from the Bible as well. The magazine Guitar World voted the best song Creeping Death by Metallica.

Live performances

Creeping Death is one of seven songs that have played more than 1000 concerts Metallica from proven. Only the song Master of Puppets was played more frequently than Creeping Death. In three concerts in July 2000 was taken because of a violation of the singer James Hetfield vocals by bassist Jason Newsted. The rhythm guitar was acquired by Kenny Tudrick of the live band of the singer Kid Rock. On June 6, 2004 Joey Jordison of Slipknot the band filled in for the ailing drummer Lars Ulrich.
