The Cremera (also Valchetta ) is a tributary of the Tiber in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography

The Cremera arises in the Valle del Sorbo in the municipality of Formello by the confluence of the streams Fosso della Mola dei Monti and Fosso della Mola di Formello. It flows through the Valle del Sorbo in a southerly direction and turn north of the Roman district of Isola Farnese east into the Valle Cremera, then joins between the Roman districts Lábaro Saxa Rubra and into the Tiber. Its catchment area includes not only the northern suburbs of Rome, the communities Campagnano di Roma, Formello and Sacrofano. It flows through the whole length of the Parco di Veio. Its shores are almost completely natural and undeveloped condition.

History

The Cremera plays in various ancient events is relevant, as the Etruscan city of Veii was on a hill above the river. It is known in particular the Battle of the Cremera ( 477 BC), supposedly almost all male members of the Roman gens Fabia came in the fight against Veii in their lives.
