Crenans

Crenans is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Crenans is located on 660 m above sea level. M., about 13 km northwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, on a plateau at the western foot of the forested uplands of the Jura chain, east of Vouglan.

The area of ​​8.82 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The western part is occupied by the plateau of Crenans and gently from the west to the plateau of Charchilla sloping hillside. History

The territory of Crenans was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. First mentioned is the place in the 13th century. In the 14th century belonged to the Crenans Kastlanei of Charchilla. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To a field change occurred in 1822, when the previously independent Coulouvre was incorporated into Crenans.

Population
