Album

The album is less heavy than the querflöte Jethro Tull albums of the 1970s, it dominated Martin Barre's guitar playing. Also, many songs were accompanied with a drum machine, rather than to occupy a real drummer. On the cover are only Ian Anderson, Dave Pegg and Martin Barre named as band members. Peter- John Vettese, the former keyboardist of the band, was replaced by Ian Anderson as a keyboardist.

Cover

The dark lettering of the band standing on top of the cover, with very small, dark blue letters " JETHRO " and large, yellow-white ornate letter " TULL ". Including a silver and gold, bearded figure is depicted with a crown, reminiscent of a king and a half each dark blue and white shield with coat of arms bears showing a black cat who makes a hump and menacing looks. The contours of the cat are on the dark blue half white and yellow color on the white side in the same as the ornate font. All around is laid a figure with sheep's head. It sits a bird on a flute. Below on the cover is the album title in a similarly small lettering as above " JETHRO ". The background color is - depending on the issue - more or less light beige, which is uneven. The cover alludes to the album title. Depending on reading with "Crest of squire " or " summit of a rogue " (ie apparently Ian Anderson) can be translated

On the back there is a similar emblem. It shows the black cat in front of a decorated metal frame on which the band's name on it. Behind the cat you can see parts of acoustic guitar, flute and electric guitar. Below are the titles of each musician and the credits. The background color is like on the front.

Also Available in These credits ironic statements are available again, this time it says "Recorded just round the corner from the kitchen in the room behind the door Which used to be painted white but Is not any more " - to German about: Recorded directly to the corner from the kitchen behind the door, which was formerly painted white, but it is no more.

On the cover of the record all song texts are printed, the band name is printed in the same size as on the front cover in blue and white in the upper third.

The Grammys and the epilogue

In February 1989, Jethro Tull was able to maintain for the award of a joint Grammys for the genre Hard Rock and Heavy Metal in the 31 Grammy Awards. The other candidates were AC / DC with the album Blow Up Your Video, Jane 's Addiction with Nothing's Shocking, Iggy Pop with the song Cold Metal and the favorite Metallica, which incidentally also the first metal band to Title One played at the ceremony, with ... And Justice for All.

Jethro Tull took the advice of the record company Chrysalis Records and did not attend the ceremony because a victory would have been unlikely anyway, even more surprising was the result. According to a later interview Ian Anderson stated that he was glad he did not go to the ceremony because he did not know how he would have to accept the price, this came even booing of the audience.

As a counter to the criticism of the record company published in Billboard magazine ad with a picture of the trademark of the band, a flute, rebar with the line " The flute is a heavy metal instrument! " And congratulating the Grammy - winning. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences drew their conclusions from the incident and taught for the next Grammy Awards to be awarded two separate categories for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance a. At the ceremony of the Grammy for Best Metal performance in 1992, thanked the drummer of the band Metallica, Lars Ulrich, in the acceptance speech for the award for the album Metallica Jethro Tull, that they have released an album, but they are wrong as had been published in the nomination period Catfish Rising by Jethro Tull.
