Creta et Cyrenaica

Creta et Cyrene was a province of the Roman Empire. It was established under Augustus and comprised the island of Crete and the Cyrenaica landscape to the ancient Greek colony of Cyrene on the North African mainland.

The province was administered by a proconsul, the Senate determined from the ranks of former praetors. Its headquarters was Gortyn in Crete.

In the province of the Emperor Diocletian reform Crete and Cyrene were divided into the inferior three independent provinces of Creta, Libya superior and Libya.
