Cretacolor

The Cretacolor brand is manufactured by Brevillier Urban & Sachs GmbH & Co KG at the production site Hirm in Burgenland.

History

Cretacolor sees himself in the tradition of the Koh-i- Noor Hardtmuth AG, its estate 1996, the manufacturing facility was acquired in Hirm. Koh-i- Noor Hardtmuth goes back to the inventor Joseph Hardtmuth, who developed in 1792 a novel method for generating artificial pencil lead. Earlier, the mines had been cut from expensive graphite chunks. Hardtmuth formed the first time a mixture of clay and powdered graphite waste. The sound is converted to ceramics by firing at about 900 ° C and the pin, thus obtaining a special breaking strength. Only by the concomitant strong cheapening of the pencil that was popular as a writing medium for the masses, and to date this method is used by all pencil manufacturers worldwide.

In autumn 2007 Brevillier Urban of Heinrich Sachs KG ( Cretacolor ) is adopted and incorporated into the company structure. In January 2009 the whole group in Brevillier Urban & Sachs GmbH & Co KG will be renamed under which today the brand JOLLY, SAX, Brevillier 's Cretacolor and BIBA are sold.
