Crimean Front

The Krimfront (Russian Крымский фронт / Krymski front) was a major unit of the Red Army during the Second World War. The Krimfront was formed on January 28, 1942 from the Caucasus Front and the area of ​​defense of Sevastopol and was until May 19, 1942. Imputed associations were transferred to the North Caucasus Front.

Operations

Under the supervision of Lew Sacharowitsch Mechlis, who acted as representative of the Stavka, the front took on 27 February 1942, a raid operation on the German 11th Army under General Erich von Manstein. A counter-offensive of the German troops between 8 and 19 May 1942 ( company Trappenjagd ) drove the three armies of the Krimfront ( 44th, 47th and 51st Army ) with heavy losses ( 150,000 ) into the sea. Only the fortress of Sebastopol able to keep going until July 2, 1942.
