Crisp County, Georgia

The Crisp County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cordele, named after the daughter of the President of the Savannah, Americus, and Montgomery Railroad.

Geography

The County is located in south-central Georgia, is about 140 km from the northern border of Florida and has an area of ​​728 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Dooly County, Wilcox County, Turner County, Worth County Lee County and Sumter County.

History

Crisp County was formed on August 17, 1905 from Dooly County. It was named after Charles Frederick Crisp, a lawyer and speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1891 to 1893.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 21,996 people in Crisp County. Of these, 463 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 8,337 households and 5,869 families. The population density was 31 people per square kilometer.
