Crissolo

Crissolo is a high alpine village with 162 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont. It is located on the top near the Valle Po Po sources, about 60 km southwest of Turin.

She is a member of Mountain Community Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda e Infernotto, which was expanded in 2008 to the Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda, Infernotto e Varaita since 2006.

Geography

Crissolo lies about 1300 m above sea level in the high-altitude part of the Po Valley, about 7 km as the crow flies from the sources of the Po in the Cozie Alps.

Crissolo was laid out on the sunnier north side of the valley. From the river comes up the Via Po Valley ( State Road 662), which leads from the east of Saluzzo ( edge of the Po Valley ) to Paesana, the main town in the mountain valley.

The municipality covers an area of 48 km ². Borders the following municipalities:

  • Oncino and Ostana downstream of the Po Valley;
  • Bagnolo Piemonte, Bobbio Pellice and Villar Pellice in the northern parallel valley Val Pellice;
  • Pontechianale in southern Valle Varaita and Ristolas in France.

Tourism

The valley of the Po Valley is the best starting point to the highest peak of the Cozie Alps, the rock pyramid of Monte Viso ( Monviso, 3,841 m) .. For their ascent accessible from Crissolo of two huts: the Rifugio Quintino Sella ( 2640m ) at Lago Grande di Viso and the Rifugio Mont Viso ( 2460m ).

Smaller mountain trails leading to the nearby Monte Tivoli (~ 2000 m ) in the south Crissolos on the results of Oncino also a mountain road, and the Monte Grane ( 2,318 m) in the southwest.
