Cristian Chivu

Cristian Eugen Chivu ( born October 26, 1980 in Resita ) is a former Romanian football player.

Career

In the club

He began his career at CSM Resita. After his move to FC Universitatea Craiova growing interest in Chivus person and West European clubs were aware of him. Ajax Amsterdam won the contract and eventually signed him in the summer of 1999. At Ajax Amsterdam, he was quickly recognized as a reliable defender and coach Ronald Koeman appointed him in 2001, despite his young age, the captain and defensive leader. Together with other young players such as Rafael van der Vaart and Zlatan Ibrahimović he won the 2001/2002 Dutch Eredivisie and the Amstel Cup.
